1/9/2010
Notre Dame report calls Saint Anthony School of Milwaukee a "beacon of hope" for urban education In December, the University of Notre Dame's national Task Force on the Participation of Latino Children and Families in Catholic Schools released its final report, To Nurture the Soul of a Nation: Latino Families, Catholic Schools, and Educational Opportunity. The report singled out Saint Anthony School of Milwaukee as a "beacon of hope" for urban education. "Currently the largest Catholic elementary school in the nation, St. Anthony is filled to capacity with more than 1,000 Latino children in grades Pre-K to 9." Saint Anthony School, which Milwaukee's Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation supports, "reflects several of the best practices identified by the task force.” Two of those practices include the use of the highly researched Direct Instruction programs, (Reading Mastery, Corrective Reading, Connections, Adventures in Language) and maintaining consistent staff development and supportive supervision. Educational Resources, Inc. has been a proud partner with St. Anthony’s from the beginning of this process. Saint Anthony School, the report concludes, “is indeed a bacon of hope.” ERI congratulates the administration and staff for their outstanding achievement of “providing the programs students need and the support teachers deserve.”
