| Having Mary, our ERI reading coach, come to our school for the past two years has been amazing. I taught Reading Mastery for 2 years before Mary started coming, but my results were no comparison to what they are now. I have been able to push my students farther than they have ever gotten in the Reading Mastery program and the DIBELS and MAPS scores reflect that progress. Mary is absolutely wonderful!! She always has suggestions that help us to improve! I have been able to take what ERI has taught me and apply it to other subject areas as well. I am a better teacher because of ERI. ERI has been part of our team for the past 5 years, all of which have been academically profitable for our school. In the past five years, our School Performance Score has risen; with this year being the highest. Our school is currently the highest achieving charter school in the state of Louisiana with a score of 114; and that is, in part, due to the academic assistance we receive from Mary Detscher and the team at ERI.
Since we began contracting with ERI, we have added many components to the reading program that have increased student retention and comprehension, fluency, vocabulary-building, understanding of story elements, and writing; all of which are necessary for academic success but not addressed satisfactorily in the Reading Mastery Teacher Presentation Book as it was originally written. Mary and her team are constantly researching and implementing ways to improve the reading program.
Aside from program suggestions and implementation of new components, our school has witnessed great strides in teacher ability and confidence. Our consultant, Mary Detscher, comes in on a monthly basis to coach our teachers. She is welcoming, easy to work with, and always eager to show us new ideas based on the latest reading research. She helps the teachers engineer the program, adds structure to groups that need help, and provides the teachers with ideas for challenging students in high-achieving groups.
Educational Resources, Inc. is a wonderful team of educators helping educators to help children. If I could say one thing that would sum up my praise of this firm, it would be that they are in the business of educating children. It is their goal that all students learn and their belief that all students can learn that impresses me the most. They take that belief to heart and bring it into the school, where it gets solidified in the classrooms and verified in the test scores.
